No Meek Messiah
Christianity's Lies, Laws, and Legacy
Michael Paulkovich
Famous atheist Richard Dawkins admired Jesus as a philosopher saying he was "ahead of his time." Anti-religionist Bill Maher said "Jesus is one of the greatest role models I can think of." I admire those men but they both got it all wrong. Jesus and his Apostles are all for ethnic cleansing, as long as Hebrews are on the top rung: "The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people… And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot" (Acts 13:17-19). The New Testament—not just the Old—approves of slavery: 1 Timothy 6:1, Titus 2:9-10, Ephesians 6:5-6, and 1 Peter 2:18. Jesus even recommends savage whipping of disobedient slaves: Luke 12:46-48. Jesus agrees (Mk 7:10 and Mt 15:4) with Moses' jurisprudence condemning to death a rebellious or stubborn son (Dt 21:20-1). Obviously, then, Jesus has read Deuteronomy. Does he agree with 22:28-9, wherein the penalty for rape is money paid to the rape victim's father, and the female rape victim must marry her rapist (Dt 22:28-9)? If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. Jesus unambiguously condemns to death and Hell the Lebanese people who disliked his preaching, and simply because "they had not done penance" (Mt 11:20-23). Funny how often JC forgets about TSNK. From No Meek Messiah: Jesus proclaimed "whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out" (Mt 5:28-29). Your local neighborhood Christian apologist will argue vehemently that Jesus spoke in mere metaphor, but he expressed beliefs that the world would end very soon, and if you lust after a woman—Jesus believed—you will not go to his supposed heaven, but relegated to the second-best afterlife joint. George Carlin pointed out that he still loves you. |
